MEN
Yan becomes youngest ever World Champion
At the age of 14 usually it remains hard to win a Junior
championship but Yan Bingtao of China registered himself into
records of IBSF to become the youngest ever World Champion in
snooker. He surpass his compatriot Zhou Yuelong who became the world
champion at the age of 15 last year.
Yan Bingtao today lifted the 2014 SEAWAYS IBSF World Snooker trophy
after defeating Muhammad Sajjad of Pakistan 8-7. As the score-line
says, match was not so easy and had many fold till the end.
Initially it appeared that Yan will make his way easy but Sajjad was
also not leaving any stone unturned. At the end of first session,
Yan was leading by 2 frames (6-4) but when second session started,
Sajjad rejected Yan's claim of winning 11th frame despite having a
break of 60 points.
From there two more wins put Sajjad ahead on Yan (7-6) and it
appeared that now Sajjad's victory is mere formality but it was not
accepted to Yan and he flipped the side to win back to back two
frames to become youngest ever world champion.
With this win, as usual, Yan also wins the ticket of Professional
tour.
Yan's journey was not so easy. He reached the final defeating
Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn (7-5) in Semis, World Champion in all
formats, Pankaj Advani (6-4) in quarters and India's National 6Reds
Champion, Varun Madan (5-1) in last-16 stage.
Defeating 12 times World Champion, Pankaj Advani and that too before
his home crowd was ofcourse remained a huge task for Yan.
MASTERS
Phisit Chandsri retained his Masters title.

In the Master's category, Phisit Chandsri retained his title that he
won first time in Latvia last year. He had a very tough opponent in
today's final and seriously had spent a tough time on the table.
The match went into the decider and could be anyone's game because
in the frame before Darren had scored a break of 63 points to get
into decider and snatching a match away from him by winning a
decider is just like snatching a anything from the jaws of lion.
Applaud to Phisit that finally he did so.
Phisit had a good start of match and had pocketed first two frames
but Darren was not just a mute spectator. He responded handsomely
with four consecutive frames win to gain 4-2 lead. However, Phisit
was also not interested in giving away the match and cracked his
journey by wining 7th frame scoring 49 points break. He further
pocketed next two frames to lead 5-4. As mentioned, 10th frame went
to Darren with a magnificent break of 63 points to set decider.
If there would be any loose string from Phisit, Darren for sure
would've returned as champion but Phisit stopped him well by posting
break of 57 points and won the championship 6-5.
WOMEN
Wendy Jans proved her supremacy third time in a row

Wendy Jans of Belgium today defeated Russian Challange Anastasia
Nechaeva 5-2 to win her career's fourth world title (third in a
row).
Anastasia won the first frame where she made a break of 44 and Wendy
replied her well by scoring 42 points break in next. Anastasia once
again got on the lead 2-1 by winning one more frame but after that
Wendy did not give her any chance get into game. Three consecutive
breaks of 40, 43 and 30 points in next three frames were enough to
break the rhythm of Anastasia.
Just one frame away from her fourth title, Wendy found no big hurdle
and registered 5-2 win over Russian girl.
In women's category, it is a record that out of total 10 world
championships, Wendy has reached into finals eight times and four
times she converted that entry into title win.
With
this the 2014 IBSF World Championship concluded. We will meet again
next year with new excitement of new championships.
Hopefully next year the World Under-21 will take place in
Romania (TBC), World Doubles and World Disabled in
Egypt (TBC), World Team and 6Reds in Pakistan, World
Billiards in Leeds and World Snooker in South Africa.
