World Under-18 gains major popularity

It has been observed by the IBSF that young kids are not far behind and playing snooker very passionately. The world snooker champions in last two years are kids below the age 18. Encouraged by this, IBSF felt need of creating a platform where more and more kids can join the snooker fraternity and gain confidence to compete at higher levels.

With that vision, IBSF decided to hold exclusive championships for Under-18 boys and girls. This idea was well supported by Federation of Billiards Sport of Russia by bidding to host 2015 IBSF World Snooker Championships in Saint Petersburg.

Yesterday, when the championship has been successfully concluded, the IBSF is delighted to note the popularity gained by this championship in last 7 days. Participation of 75 players from 18 countries in boys category and 25 girls participated is outstanding. They exhibited great skills of snooker in groups as well as in knockouts too.

In the finals, Ka Wai Cheung from Hong Kong and Yana Shut from Belarus emerged as champions in boys and girls categories respectively. Cheung defeated his compatriot Ming Tung Chan 5-2 and Yana Shut knocked out Russian girl, Anastasija Singurindi in straight sets 3-0 to be come champion.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by IBSF President Capt. PVK Mohan and gave away trophies to winners. Mohammed Kammah, IBSF Secretary General and Ryabinin Sergey, President, Federation of Billiards Sport of Russia also joined the prize distribution ceremony.
