Mixed results for former world champion on day 1

Former World Champion, Muhammad Asif of Pakistan had mix results today. He finished the day proceedings with one win and one lose.

In afternoon session, Asif was at his best and registered fabulous 4-0 win over UAE player Mohammed Alshamsi. In fact, he scored 3 breaks of 53, 71 and 41 points in last three frames to give a best finish of the match.

But last session was not good for him where he lost the deciding frame against Iranian youngster Hamed Zarehdoust. After losing first frame, Asif recovered well and gained 3-2 but Hamed was too good in last two frames and registered magnificent wins to shock former champion.

After losing first match, the defending champion, Pankaj Advani, recovered well in the late evening match and registered 4-2 win over Li Yingdong of China. Here too, Advani was down 2 frames from where he got back into his zone and won next four frames to defeat Chinese boy Yingdong.
