20th Anniversary of the WPA
08 Dec 2007

At the invitation of Ian Anderson, Chairman of the WPA, I went to Willigen (Germany) to attend the WPA Dinner given for the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the WPA.

Many personalities of the World Pool Association from all over the world were present, as it was also the Closing Dinner of the World Junior Pool Championships.

Ian Anderson gave during the dinner a brief history of the major stages of WPA, which today is undoubtedly the most developed of the International Federations with over 110 members and a budget that allows it to award during its World Championships an extremely attractive prize money.

Jorgen Sandman, the current President of the WCBS, for his part, spoke anecdotally how the first World Championship was established in 1990 to be 3 years after the official creation of the WPA.

The WPA represents Pool on WCBS, the UMB Carom and WPBSA and the IBSF Snooker.

It is therefore very important to show of the team spirit of the IBSF and its desire to work in harmony with other sports disciplines Cue Sports.

I also took the opportunity to meet with the President of the African Pool Federation, Peter Hawley, who confirmed to me that he wished to put as fast as possible in place the Confederation of African Snooker Federation recently reactivated under the Presidency of Mohammed El Kammah, our IBSF Secretary General.

With a superb fireworks display and a Closing Gala Dinner, I could not help thinking that the IBSF is now 44 years old, it never even celebrated its birthday, nor does it organize a Gala Dinner or fireworks display and offers no gifts to guests - so it is now time to make up for lost time and to lift its image to its rightful place amongst all Sport Federations.
