IBSF Annual General Meeting – December 2010

The Annual General meeting of International Billiards & Snooker Federation took place on 10th December 2010 in Damascus, Syria during IBSF World Snooker Championship 2010.

The AGM started with the election process for the post of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, for which Pascal Guillaume (France), Capt. PVK Mohan (India), Mohammed El Kammah (Egypt) and Ray Habgood (New Zealand) respectively elected unanimously. The only new face in the existing body is Capt. PVK Mohan, who replaced Mr. Valika (Pakistan), the former Vice President. Capt. Mohan is existing President of Billiards & Snooker Federation of India.

After successful completion of election process, IBSF President allowed the observers inside the house and after that the proceedings of AGM started.

President welcomed representative of member countries present in the AGM and congratulate all on the occasion of 135th anniversary of snooker that is invented by Sir Neville Chamberlain in the year 1875.

He announced about the new partnership signed with table manufacturer M/s. Shender from China. M/s. Shender provided 22 tables in Syria and after completion of 6 days of the championship, every one praised about the quality of tables. He informed the house that Shender has offered to the IBSF the possibility of establishing a significant budget and to finally have the means to achieve its ambitions.

President expressed his satisfaction and pleasure on the system developed for online entries which was introduced for the first time in 2009, and now proved to be a powerful tool available to all the IBSF member countries and the regions.

With the concern on valuable contribution of referees, without which no World Championship is possible ever, IBSF did an assessment system to give all the international referees, those made the efforts to help IBSF for the success of world championships, recognized for their efforts and dedication to our sport.

President also congratulates Mr. Sindhu Pulsivirong, the IBSF board Member and President of Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports on his appointment as President in World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association.

President also confirmed the very good relations between IBSF and WPBSA, which are promising for a great future cooperation. (Recently IBSF announced an agreement with WPBSA for coaching and the worldwide grass-root development of Snooker and Billiards in IBSF Coaching Academy)

For the Communication Policy, President announced appointment of Vivek Pathak, the founder of Cue Sports India, as first Media Officer of the IBSF to manage all communication with the media and single distribution point for all circulations and press-releases. He introduced Mr. Pathak with all representatives of member countries.

President, on behalf of entire IBSF, welcomed 3 new countries i.e. Greece, Tanzania and Venezuela. Players from these countries took part in World Snooker Championship 2010 in Syria.

It is also decided to organize Masters (40+) Snooker Championship alongwith Junior (Under-21) Snooker championship. By this, it will be easier for host country to organize the championship in much smoother way.

Following championships will take place in the year 2011:

  • IBSF World Snooker Championship (Junior and Masters), Canada (tentative July)
  • IBSF World Billiards Championship, New Zealand (tentative August)
  • IBSF World Snooker Championship (Men and Women), Bahrain (tentative October)
  • First IBSF World 6Red Snooker Championship, India (tentative December)

*Confirmed dates on the above championships will be announced in due course.
